Data from official source

The L 460 is a 1-2 needle, 2-looper overlock serger, with a DC motor and BERNINA foot control that reaches 1500 stitches per minute but also sews stitch by stitch through tricky curves. Loopers thread by hand, but the path is color-coded and single-track, with a dedicated lever for the lower looper.

It cuts from 3 to 9 mm depending on which needle is used and adjusts stitch length from 0.8 to 4 mm; differential feed runs from 0.7 (for fabric that tends to stretch out of shape) to 2 (for deliberate gathering). The rolled hem lever sits next to the stitch plate and switches from overlock to rolled hem without removing anything; the upper knife is driven from below the stitch plate, leaving the threading area more open.

It suits someone finishing and assembling seams continuously who wants a serger that is simple to adjust, without air-assisted threading: anyone who also needs cover-stitch needs a different or combo machine, because the L 460 only sews overlock, flatlock and rolled-hem stitches.

02 · Summary

Pros and cons

In favour

  • The DC motor also sews stitch by stitch: useful for controlling tight curves or difficult corners source
  • The rolled hem lever switches from overlock to rolled hem without removing anything
  • Differential feed from 0.7 to 2 keeps stretch hems flat or gathers on purpose
  • The knee lever frees both hands to guide the fabric while sewing

Worth knowing

  • Loopers thread by hand: no air assistance, just a color-coded path and a dedicated lever
  • It only sews overlock, flatlock and rolled hem: no cover-stitch, a different machine is needed for that
