Bernina BERNINA Zipper Foot #4D
SewingSpecs does not sell and does not show shop prices: check the price where you buy.
The BERNINA Zipper Foot #4D clips onto Dual Feed, the built-in upper feed on many 9 mm BERNINA machines: the fabric is pushed from both above and below, so the zipper edges don't shift while sewing.
It follows a dedicated sequence: the zipper is basted under the fabric, the needle is moved left or right depending on the side being sewn, and each side is stitched in turn up to the slider, stopping with the needle down in the fabric to slide it behind the foot. Stitch width is set to zero, since the foot guide runs straight along the fold.
It's meant for BERNINA 9 mm machines with Dual Feed engaged: without that function the foot doesn't work as intended.

Pros and cons
In favour
- It clips onto the machine's Dual Feed, so the fabric is also fed from above and the zipper edges don't shift
- It follows a dedicated zipper sequence, moving the needle left or right depending on which side is being sewn source
- Compatible with BERNINA machines with 9 mm stitch width
Worth knowing
- Only works with the machine's Dual Feed engaged: without that function the foot isn't usable
- Stitch width has to be set to zero: it isn't suited to wide decorative topstitching source
