The admire air 5000 is a Pfaff serger for 2, 3 or 4-thread work: it trims, finishes and seams fabric edges, without straight stitches or buttonholes. What sets it apart is air threading for the loopers: one touch pushes the thread through the path instead of tweezers, at the exact step where most time is usually lost on a serger.
It sews up to 1,300 stitches per minute, with an overlock width from 3.3 to 7.5 mm, stitch length from 1 to 5 mm and differential feed adjustable from 0.5 to 2.0: the latter keeps stretch knits from puckering or lightweight fabric from stretching while sewing. The upper cutter can be disengaged for flatlock work, and cutting width is set with a dedicated dial. Switching from 4 to 2 threads needs the included 2-thread converter, fitted onto the upper looper.
Thread tension stays manual on the dials, and the needle threader is built into the machine body. It suits someone taking up serging with some regularity, not professional volume work.

Pros and cons
In favour
- Air threading for the loopers skips the slowest, most frustrating part of setting up a serger
- Differential feed from 0.5 to 2.0 keeps stretch knits from puckering or lightweight fabric from stretching
- The needle threader is built into the machine body, no external tweezers needed
Worth knowing
- It cannot sew straight stitches or buttonholes: it is dedicated to edging and finishing seams
- Thread tension stays manual on the dials, with no automatic adjustment
