The 272 is Dürkopp Adler's high-speed machine for topstitching and trim work on light and medium fabric: a small horizontal hook, drop feed plus needle feed (no walking foot), and speeds up to 5,000 stitches per minute. It's built for straight seams and decorative topstitching on finished garments, not leather or heavy plies — Dürkopp Adler's 867 series covers that ground.
A thread nipper pulls the needle thread to the underside of the fabric from the very first stitch, so every seam starts clean without a manual pull-through. Backtacking, foot lift and thread cutting are all triggered from the pedal in one motion, and the OP1000 electronic panel manages the sewing parameters.
It's built for shops topstitching finished pieces in volume — collars, cuffs, waistbands — not for a small shop wanting one generalist machine: maximum stitch length stays at 4 mm, suited to fine work rather than heavy sewing.

Pros and cons
In favour
- The thread nipper pulls thread to the underside from the first stitch, so seams start clean with no manual pull-through source
- Backtacking, foot lift and thread cutting all trigger together from the pedal, in one motion
- Sews up to 5,000 stitches per minute, the right pace for volume trim work
- The OP1000 panel manages sewing parameters without scattered mechanical adjustments on the machine source
Worth knowing
- Feed is drop feed plus needle feed, no walking foot: not the right tool for leather or stacks of heavy plies
- The hook is small (Ø 22 mm): not built for large bobbins or thick thread source
