Data from official source

The DESIGNER TOPAZ 40 is a Husqvarna Viking combo machine: the embroidery unit clips onto the free arm and comes included with the purchase, not a separate accessory bought on top as on some lower-tier combos. Detached, it stays a sewing machine; attached, the included Jewel hoop reaches 240x150 mm, the largest area the machine supports.

It has 150 built-in embroidery designs and reads the most common formats from a USB stick, including .DST, .JEF, .PES, .EXP and .VP3. The 3.5-inch color touchscreen handles both embroidery and sewing, with 208 built-in stitches and a fully automatic one-step buttonhole in 7 styles plus an eyelet and button-sewing function. The sensor on the top and bobbin thread flags when thread runs out, and tension sets itself according to the chosen stitch. The feed dogs drop on their own when switching to embroidery, but stay manual for regular sewing.

The needle threader stays manual, with no automatic or lever-operated device. The thread cutter, on the other hand, is automatic, including on the color jumps within an embroidery design. It suits someone who wants to move between sewing and embroidery in the same session without buying a separate module, not someone looking for the largest hoop in the range.
