This is the ball point needle for jersey and stretch fabrics, sold by SCHMETZ under the 130/705 H-SUK system: the medium ball point slides between the fibres of the knit instead of cutting them, which is what keeps the fibres from breaking at the point of penetration. It fits any domestic sewing machine that uses the 130/705 standard, regardless of brand. It comes in four sizes, from Nm 70 to Nm 100.
On rigid woven fabrics or denim the ball point does not cut through the fibres the way a sharp point would, and the stitch can look less defined: for those fabrics a sharp or reinforced point needle remains the better choice. It is the right pick when the garment is jersey, light sweatshirt fabric or stretch knit and skipped stitches are the problem to avoid.
