Data from official source

The Fabricator is Sailrite's industrial straight-stitch machine with a compound walking foot: bottom feed, needle feed and an alternating foot work together, driven by a 550 W, 3/4-horsepower Workhorse motor fitted in place of a hand crank. The knee lifter raises the foot up to 14 mm hands-free, on top of the standard lever's 6.5 mm, for positioning thick fabric bundles before sewing.

It sews thread up to Tex 138, the heaviest range for structural seams on canvas, upholstery and covers, and stitch length reaches 8 mm. Lubrication is automatic, unlike the same brand's Ultrafeed portables, which need manual oiling. It's sold as a complete package with table and motor, and ships in separate boxes for assembly.

It's built for daily heavy work in an upholstery, sail or leather shop, not for carrying from job to job: it uses the 135x16/135x17 needle system, different from general industrial lockstitch machines, so anyone with existing needle stock should check compatibility before ordering.

02 · Summary

Pros and cons

In favour

  • The walking foot works together with needle feed, keeping multiple layers of coated fabric from slipping
  • The knee lifter raises the foot up to 14 mm hands-free, for positioning thick fabric bundles
  • Sews thread up to Tex 138, the heaviest range for structural seams on canvas and covers
  • Lubrication is automatic, unlike the same brand's portables, which need manual oiling

Worth knowing

  • It's sold as a complete package with table and motor — it ships in separate boxes and needs assembly
  • Without the knee lifter, foot lift is only 6.5 mm — thicker bundles need the knee lever
  • It uses the 135x16/135x17 needle system — the more common industrial needle stock won't fit
