The Ultrafeed LS-1 is the straight-stitch-only version of Sailrite's heavy-duty portable machine, built for people sewing boat canvas, awnings and upholstery away from an industrial shop floor: a walking foot with oscillating shuttle and a dedicated WorkerB motor in place of the hand crank found on ordinary portables. It sews thread from Tex 30 to Tex 92 — heavy-duty thread for canvas and sail work, not dressmaking cotton.
A 34 mm needle bar stroke and straight stitch up to 6 mm let it handle multiple layers of coated fabric or light leather. Lubrication is manual, as on many portables meant to be used away from a workshop — on a boat, in a van, on a folding table.
It's built for occasional heavy work, not continuous production: a top speed of 550 stitches per minute suits someone who travels with the machine, not a shop sewing in one spot all day. Anyone who also needs zigzag gets the straight-and-zigzag variant of the same machine body.
