Il lino si sfilaccia facilmente dove è tagliato, quindi i margini vanno rifiniti: a zigzag, a sopraggitto o chiudendoli dentro una cucitura inglese. Si stropiccia molto, ed è parte del suo carattere.
La fibra è rigida, e sulle tessiture fitte può far deviare l'ago.
